Default Alex Auld on waivers

- per Jeff Marek

Not entirely surprising given Lehtonen. He was a great backup here who got asked to cover too much of the load. I really hope another team gives him a chance.

His best years are log behind him, but he's a capable backup..... Philly an option perhaps?

Doesn't really matter, he peaked early and he's not going to be anything more than a backup/1B goalie in his career.

I'll agree that he peaked early, but that's not to say he has nothing left. We shall see.

Quite frankly, he may not even get picked up...

Why the serious hate-on, Josh?

I just never felt confident with him in goal. Maybe not as bad as Gerber, but he never impressed me.

Same here.

He was great at the first half, I think he was on the top 10 GAA (or S%) at one point of the season.

But he later busted...big time.

He was better than Gerber, but as Josh said, I also wasn't that confident with him.

He has been claimed off re-entry waivers by the Rangers.

Gotta wonder why a team like Edmonton didn't grab him...

You're right. I hadn't thought about it until you brought it up.

Smart move by the Rangers, they really needed a good backup after losing Valiquette... that was one of the most reliable backups ever.

I just have to take a moment to laugh at the few people who called Murray stupid for trading Auld for only a 6th round pick... Would you rather have lost him for nothing on re-entry waivers and be stuck paying half his salary? Idiots.

It's like Elliot is too good to be a back up but not good enough to be a starter. Where as if we had a quality #1 Alud would be a perfect fit.
