Elliott Starts, Kuba/Fisher Probable
Big game in Atlanta tonight. Ottawa turned in an awful performance against the Leafs on Tuesday night and should be a motivated bunch in Atlanta. A win would close the Sens within a single point of top spot in the division.
The Thrashers are still in the playoff picture, sitting just 5 points out of 8th. They are a team that loves to outwork you, so Ottawa will have to be sharp from the get go tonight.
The team held an optional skate this morning with most players attending. Phillips, Ruutu, Spezza, Shannon and Michalek sat out the practice. Ottawa should get a boost tonight as it looks like both Mike Fisher and Filip Kuba will return to the line up. According to Ian Mendes, they are listed as probable right now.
Still waiting to hear who comes out to make room. You would think Winchester would come out to make room for Fisher but the defence scratch is a little more difficult to predict.
Brian Elliott gets the start.
I've been asking around the last couple of days to gauge the Senators interest in the pool of college free agents. Unfortunately though, it seems fairly quiet on that front. Murray is known for looking at some of those college guys but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of speculation out there.
They definitely had an interest in Casey Wellman, who ended up signing in Minnesota. The 22 year old out of the University of Massachusetts drew interest from a number of teams and apparently Ottawa was there right till the end.
I'll keep digging though and see if I can come up with any other possibilities.
Lastly, here's a link to an interesting article from Ian Mendes. Talks about the Senators recent slide and putting it all in perspective.
