Murray on Team 1200- No Progress With Volchenkov
Bryan Murray was just on Team 1200. Here is a quick recap of what the Sens GM had to say with the deadline just a couple days away.
He didn't say a whole lot but he did confirm what we already know. The Senators are looking for another defenceman heading into the deadline and he's thinking a 5/6 defenceman would be ideal. Mostly looking for another body to add depth heading down the stretch.
Murray said the Senators did have an interest in Leopold but felt the asking price was a little too high. Murray mentioned that there are some players they may consider moving but it all depends on what they are getting back.
Murray spoke about Volchenkov and said they have made zero progress in negotiations. He will listen to trade offers in the next couple of days. Very surprising but understandable.
Should be a very interesting couple of days...

Pure speculation, but I bet Volchenkov is looking for more than he is worth.

I really hope Murray holds his ground here...I'd like Volchenkov to stay, but not for a ridiculous price.

It seems that its the 2nd 3rd line/pairings are demanding too much money as of late. I don't know where this trend started but its obvious with the Stajan signing today

If Phillips has 3.5 cap hit, I don't see Murray offering more than that to A-Train...
*A-Train has a 2.5 hit...I do agree he deserves a raise, but lets not go crazy. Zbybek Michalek has a 1.25 hit and is a FA at the end of this season....He plays a similar game apparently. Maybe Milan can put in a good word to his bro..

I hear that the money is set.
The only question is and the point that has hit a snag is the length of the contract.
It seems Volchenkov wants a longer contract than what Murray offered him.

Yeah, but he seems like the type of guy who just plays for himself, Volchenkov IMO is the kind of guy who plays for the logo on the front, not the name on the back.

I keep hearing the same. And I can tell you, it's got me rather pissed off at Bryan Murray. If the money's OK, a LONGER contract is even better. He could still have 10 years in him.

Ok, but maybe the money is only ok if it's a short term deal.
e.g. the price could be $4.2 million - which would be ok if it were 2-3 years, but NOT ok if it were 10.

Not only is this one of the major problems.
It seems Murray doesn't want to offer a huge contract because of the health reasons that Volchenkov might encounter.
After all, Volchenkov's game is a very dangerous and aggressive one. You don't want to give someone a 7 year contract while he spends 2 or 3 of those years injured.

Volchenkov should get a four-year $16 million deal: 4.5, 4.5, 3.5, 3.5

Philips closed at a very good time the team had some cap. But I would say 4 year 12 million for the A train. But I caution anybody that talks money and trains in Ottawa. It's expensive

I'd have 4, 3.5, 3.5 for a 3 year deal worth $11 million.
