Josh's is more realistic.
I would go 6 years, 4.5, 4.5, 4, 4, 3.5, 3.5 for a total of 4 million per year. Thats the minimum you're gonna get him for.

After all, Volchenkov's game is a very dangerous and aggressive one. You don't want to give someone a 7 year contract while he spends 2 or 3 of those years injured.

This made me think twice.

I agree.
But my offer is based on what Ottawa could afford.

I have a feeling the Sens will proceed like Florida did last season with JBo...They will keep Volchenkov for the playoffs run and if he is not signed by the time the season ends..Sens will sell his rights at the draft...

This makes sense. But all Florida got for J-Bow was, what? Leopold and a pick? And that was J-Bow, a much better defenseman than Volchenkov. What I'd like to see is Murray to do something like Muckler did with Hossa and trade him for a younger, lower-paid defenseman, maybe an RFA. Dan Girardi, James Wisniewski, Nicklas Grossman.
I know I threw out the idea a while back of - if they're both yet unsigned - trading Volchenkov for Michalek at the draft. It kinda makes sense, the problem with Volchenkov is with the amount of money. Phoenix has plenty of cap space to give him all the money he wants. Should Michalek not want to re-sign, the problem would be that he just doens't want to play in Phoenix. He would be sure to sign in Ottawa, a good hockey city, a great hockey team and his brother plays here. Heres hoping.

Add Volchenkov (and Morris) to the Yotes D and you have a pretty formidable group...

I don't know anything about Michalek. But I would suggest either a pick or a prospect. Am I being to unhomerish?

I think that is a fair assessment...but then again, maybe I'm just as homer as you. That said, I would love to see the Mickalek bros together.

Thank you and sorry then
I was at the Senators barn last night with a few very smart hockey minds. Trade talk was flying around the tables, seats and even in the washrooms. (only the crappy trades) The only thing everyone could agree on was that Volchenkov was going to stay in Ottawa.
[/COLOR]Not saying that these people know more than our members that would be ridiculous having said that, the table (bar) behind section 111 does gather some very intelligent hockey minds along with a couple of media folks and senators alumni. I think it will be similar to the signing on Chris Neil.
