The Day After
Difficult losses on both fronts last night as both the Ottawa Senators and the Canadian Junior team fell to defeat. For the Canadians it's silver in Saskatchewan but for the Senators it's back to the drawing board in preparation for the Capitals tomorrow night.
Pascal Leclaire went down for a moment or two in the third period last night with what looked like a knee injury but he was able to get back up and finish the period. Nothing to worry about there, apparently.
The Senators actually played a decent 40 minutes last night but the brutal defensive zone coverage in the first period did them in. You just can't let a team own the slot like the Bruins did in the first period last night.
A couple closing notes from the World Juniors. Word is the Senators organization is none too pleased with the way Jared Cowen was handled in the tournament. Cowen was never able to get into a rhythm and really had a tournament to forget.
Here's hoping Cowen can put the experience behind and go back to dominating the WHL for the rest of the season. I really don't think Sens fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to Jared Cowen.
If this tournament is any indication the Sens scouting staff has found a couple hidden gems in Jakob Silfverberg and Andre Petersson from Team Sweden.
I didn't have a chance to see many Sweden games but was blown away by the performance of Petersson in the bronze medal game. The guy can absolutely hammer a puck and looks like a legitimate goal scorer.
Silfverberg looks like a solid two-way guy with a nose for the net. Both players definitely have the make up of future NHL'ers.
Hoping to have a rumour update later today...
