yeh no thanks to Sundin. He was basically ineffective, a waste of time and space in Vancouver. No need to take up space on our bench.

I wonder how long before we can lump Heatley in that category also?

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Although I think he could get more if he went elsewhere. Toronto gave 4.5 for Komisarek and 3.8 to Beauchamin. By those standards Volchenkov is worth 4 - 4.5 million easy. Lets just hope Murray wraps him up long term for 3.25-3.75 so we don't have to worry about seeing just how valuable other teams think he is.

Did you guys read the article about Spezza in the Sun...of course he was asked about the Star..but I liked his answers about the fact that he was passed over for the Olympic camp. I'm pretty sure the talk he had with Steve Yzerman is gonna be a huge tap on the back for him.
Looking forward to see him play soon

I think this is going to be a big year for Spezza. He feels he has a lot to prove to a lot of people, including himself. He's going to work his ASS off.

Lets hope so. And the better Spezza does the better Heater is gonna do, and the better Heater does, the more likely another team will step up in a big way and we can get the return he is worth.
Also I love Spezza... I predict 95-100 points from Spez this year. He is gonna have all kinds of options to pass to from Heater to Alf to Kovalev to Lil Nicky.

From NHL.com - Eastern Conference questions...
Will Pascal Leclaire be worth the wait?
The Senators sent productive center Antoine Vermette to Columbus at the trading deadline in March for goaltender Pascal Leclaire, who spent the rest of the season recuperating from the ankle injury that ended his season before Christmas. Leclaire, a former first-round pick by the Blue Jackets, came into his own in 2007-08 (2.25 GAA, 9 shutouts) but saw his job disappear after he got hurt when rookie Steve Mason took over and played well enough to win the Calder Trophy. With veteran Alex Auld traded to Dallas, the Sens need the 2007-08 version of Leclaire to return if they have any hopes of getting back into the playoffs.

I think the answer will be yes. At least I am hopeful he is. He's the first goaltender in a VERY long time that I can honestly hear a hunger in his words.

So do you guys feel that Donovan will be in our lineup this season, and if so, where do you see him fitting in?

I can't wait to see Jaarko Ruutu on a winning team, he is much much more effective when the score is in our favour.
The Volchenkov situation scares me, I was reading on one of the many sens blogs out there, on Another Ottawa Senators Blog about our defensive defensemen...
Currently on our playing roster we have Phillips and Volchekov as defensive defensemen, i know Smith as well, but I don't see him playing much this year.
In the system we have Cowen and Wiercioch coming up... There is no way we can have 4 defensive defensemen on the team..
Who goes? Chara or Redden? I mean... Phillips or Volchenkov...

I kinda hope so.. I have a big place in my heart for undervalued veterans.. see my avatar.. He still has great value for our team, but at the same time we need to make room for young guys who might get frustrated with the lack of chances to move up in the system.

Actually Wiercioch is more of an offensive defenseman. At least thats what I know from his stats and everything I have read on him. Unfortunately I have not actually seen him play yet. Hopefully he makes Canada's under 20 team this year and that will change.
And besides, Cowen and Wiercioch won't be playing in the NHL until 2011/12 (full time for 2012/13), so if we play our cards right, we can keep both. We just lock up Volchenkov long-term next spring and then Phillips for 3 years starting in 2011/12, then Wiercioch and Cowen's entry level contracts last through 2014/15 and when they are up and need big raises, Kuba (whose contract ends at the end of 2011/12, and I expect [hope] to be effectively replaced by Wiercioch the next season) will be long gone and Phillip's 3 year contract will be up and he (by now 36) will be ready to retire or take a large pay cut for his last couple seasons.
