So, I'm thinking about our need for an offensive defenseman...
Now, I know AK27 has mentioned this before, but I didn't give it much thought, thinking he would be signed elsewhere soon enough.
Marc-Andre Bergeron! What the hell are we waiting for??
Here's what I propose:
Sign Bergeron. It can probably be done for about $3 million. Trade Kelly, Schubert, Picard and our 4th Rounder in 2010 to the first taker for their 1st or 2nd in 2010 and a decent prospect. Now you have the $3 million back.
Roll with:
Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson
Cheechoo - Shannon - Kovalev
Foligno - Regin - Fisher
Ruutu - Donovan - Neil
Campoli - Bergeron
Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Karlsson
Carkner = 7th
Leclaire
Elliott
(That's a Stanley Cup Champion team right there )
Thoughts?

AK27 said this but I also suggested it AGES ago, possibly even before free agency started...I can't remember when
I think Karlsson is our Bergeron.
I do remember seeing Campoli and Bergeron play on the island and they did make a formidable pairing. Not the best defensively, but man does Bergeron ever have a cannon, and Campoli is no slouch either.

I can see your point there, but I can't see any team willing to take on that much of our leftovers, it would be like charity work. I mean, yes Schubert, Picard and Kelly all have value on their own and could each be useful in some way to some particular team but no team could take on all of them.
For Kelly and Picard I think we could get a second rounder each. Columbus still needs help on their powerplay, maybe send Picard and a 4th to them for a 2nd and a 5th? As for Kelly, I believe we would get maximum value for him if we wait until the trade deadline but if we do decide to do it now, Anaheim and Dallas appear to be lacking good, veteran checking line, penalty killing centers. As for Schubert, I can't see us getting more than a 5th or 6th round pick for him if we can trade him at all, maybe we could package him in with one of the other two guys, but I think it would actually hurt the return, not sweeten it.
Edit: Just remembered we have 2 second rounders now, I wonder if a team like Anaheim would do Kelly and a second for a first, especially considering they have 2 first round picks this year...

I'm just wondering with the season starting in 4 days do we know what the sens final lineup and lines are or do we still have to wait a little while.

They are still trying to move a veteran contract. They will wait until tomorrow to announce the last few cuts.

Ottawa Sun says that Robin Lehner has a new nickname by Soo fans. They call him "real estate" because he's as big as a house.

Ottawa was practicing the PP today and here's the lines they used:
Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson with Kuba - Shannon
Neil (positioned at front of net) - Spezza - Alfredsson with Kuba - Shannon
Foligno - Regin - Kovalev with Campoli - Karlsson
Cheechoo - Regin - Kovalev with Campoli - Karlsson
Fisher did not skate, but said that he didn't because he was recovering from bumps and bruises.
Here was the line up they used today:
Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson
Kovalev - Regin - Donovan
Foligno - Shannon - Cheechoo
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil
Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Karlsson
Campoli - Carkner
Picard
Leclaire
Elliott
So replace Donovan with Fisher and that will be our line up this year.

Not necessarily about the Sens, but about Heatley.
Heatley was his usual self last night, floating down the ice not back checking at all which allowed Colorado to score a goal last night. And missing an open night.
I feel sorry for the Sharks... Sens would've won the trade if they only acquired Michalek.

I agree, I watched the whole game and he was his same lazy self. Stick in the air half the time, standing around the other half..

But the kodak moment is when he was convinced he had scored, therefore he was already celebrating....while the Avs 4rth liner just ran away with the puck and scored at the other end!! Priceless!!!!

I am convinced we need to get Phillips to waive his NMC and trade him. It's him or Volchenkov, and if we don't trade Phillips it will have to be Kuba.

I'd be curious to see Michalek and Fisher on the same line...
There's my random thought for today

Phillips is probably not getting another contract. But will Murray trade him? I'm not so sure he will...
