Default Mike Foligno Steps Down as Coach of Wolves

SUDBURY, Ont. — Former NHL forward Mike Foligno is reportedly stepping down as head coach of the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves.

According to a report from Sudbury radio station CJMX, the 50-year-old Foligno will remain as the team's general manager.

Associate coach Bryan Verreault will assume head coaching duties and will be joined by NHLer Jeff Beukeboom, who will take over as the team's new assistant.

Foligno's wife Janis died last month after a long battle with cancer.

A Sudbury native and former Wolves player, Foligno scored 355 goals and collected 372 assists in 1,018 career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. He added 15 goals and 17 assists in 57 career playoff games.

Foligno returned to Sudbury and took over the Wolves at the start of the 2003-04 season, winning the OHL's Eastern Conference Championship in 2007 before bowing out to Plymouth in the league finals.

His son Nick plays for the Ottawa Senators.

That's too bad for the Wolves....but at least he is remaining on board as GM..so I guess one can only wish him well for the future.
