Default Forsberg snags spot on Swedish Olympic roster

STOCKHOLM -- Peter Forsberg doesn't know if he'll play hockey at all this season, but defending Olympic champion Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson still named the former NHL MVP to his preliminary Olympic roster yesterday.

The 36-year-old Forsberg has practised with his Swedish Elite League team Modo since early August and is playing a pre-season tournament in Switzerland this weekend.

"My chances to play this winter are still very small," Forsberg said.

Veteran Mats Sundin, another key Sweden player at the 2006 Olympics, didn't make the squad.

It's important to note that Mats asked specifically to NOT be considered for the Olympic team. So it wasn't that he didn't make it.

The Swedes are going to have one mean looking squad - with or without Forsberg.

True story. I remember his announcement. I don't know why the journalist use that phrasing when mentionning Sundin. Ho well..

This is puzzling to me. I thought that Forsberg announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Forsberg is planning a comeback actually and I think this is a great opportunity for him. I think Sweden will be a strong team but their stars are getting a little older, I don't think they'll be as strong as the Russians (as competition for the Canadians)
