Default 25 year old ref in critical condition after having neck sliced with skate

A 25-year old linesman is reportedly in critical condition after his neck was cut by a skate while he was trying to break up a fight on Tuesday.

Kevin Brown, 25, was cut during a Junior C game in Woodstock, Ontario between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the Woodstock Renegades. According to London, Ontario radio station AM980, Brown is listed in critical condition in hospital.

The incident took place when the two players fell to the ice. Woodstock's Craig Thomson reportedly threw New Hamburg's Reid Oliver to the ice, and Oliver's skate caught the linesman under the chin strap as he went down.

The linesman continued to try to break up the fight, but soon realized the injury he had suffered and covering the wound, skated to the Firebirds' bench.

"I saw the skate go up and (Brown) grabbed his neck right away," fellow linesman Bruce Byers told the QMI news agency afterwards. "You knew he was leaking. I told the guys on the ice, 'It's done.'"

no kidding...that was a scary moment..

and even if it wasn't a throat cut, the blocked shot by Trent McLeary was also a very scary moment...ended his career.

The trainer had to put his hand in to Malarchuk's to stop the bleeding. He had to close the vein with his fingers until they could fix it (I don't know how you fix I sliced vein...), do they just stitch it or what? Still, really scary.

Zednik was very away when it happened to him. He skated right to the bench and was treated immediately.

Malarchuk? No he didn't. He was in the crease and then the trainer came to him.
