Not to mention the Russian deal is tax-free...I think if this story is true, then it's because they are not allowing Hudler to play in Russia because of some legal issue

Woah, woah, woah, slow down people. It says arbitration awarded him a contract. Nowhere does it say anybody agreed to the terms.

I can see two things out of this:
1. He plays in Russia for the contract he got from the KHL, and then when he returns to Detroit that's his contract.
2. He's ditching Russia to stay in North America and for the Red Wings.

The deal with the arbitrator was made so that if Hudler ever decides to come back to the NHL, he has a contract in place with Detroit. Going to Russia is final at this point, but his rights will still belong to Detroit if he returns.

George James Malik posted a link to Bresk's Zdenek Janda which reports Jiri Hudler claims his agent and the Red Wings agreed to a two-year, $2.75 million per season contract just prior to his arbitration hearing, but Hudler still intends on playing for Moscow Dynamo next season.

I suspect that the deal with the Red Wings will be his term when he returns to North America, IF he returns to North America.

Wow, this just got even more confusing..
I would have to agree that this will be for when he returns to North America.

Maybe the two topics can be merged (one in other league and this one)..the same conversation is going on in both...
