Lowell Devils sign McAmmond
to an AHL deal.
Quote:
......the Lowell Devils signed left wing Dean McAmmond to an AHL contract today.
McAmmond, 36, played last season for Ottawa (three goals, four assists 44 games) and the Islanders (two goals, seven assists, 18 games) . He also spent the 2004-05 lockout season with the Devils AHL affiliate at the time, the Albany River Rats (19 goals, 42 assists, 79 AHL games).
McAmmoind had been at home without a contract and did not attend training camp with any NHL team this season.
Lamoriello would not say if McAmmond might end up in New Jersey eventually.
“Right now, it’s just for the American League and we’ll go from there,” Lamoriello said.
For McAmmond to play in the NHL for the Devils, they would have still have to sign him to an NHL contract.
If McAmmond shows in Lowell that he can still play, he might fit on the fourth line and be able to help out as a penalty killer in New Jersey. When I asked if this move had anything to do with the way certain players in New Jersey have been performing so far, Lamoriello replied, “nothing.”
“We had him in our organization before [with Albany] and he’s a veteran,” Lamoriello said. “He’s great with young kids and we have a lot of young kids. We’ll just see how it goes.”
McAmmond has 178 goals and 253 assists in 934 career NHL games.
