The Official Calgary Flames Thread
Calgary got a lot better as a team today. Phaneuf has never been great defensively, and wasn't doing much offensively for the Flames this year either. Keith Aulie is a decent prospect, but I think Frederik Sjostrom is and always will be a fringe NHLer.
By contrast, Ian White is a better defender than Phaneuf, yet also has more points acquired on a worse team. Then there's Hagman and Stajan, who turn Calgary's lineup into a really solid bunch:
Bourque - Jokinen - Iginla
Hagman- Stajan - Lundmark
Glencross - Langkow - Conroy
Dawes - Boyd - Moss
Bouwmeester - White
Regehr - Giordano
Pardy - Johnson
Kiprusoff
McElhinney

Can't wait to see how the new players all fit into the Sutter's system.
Are there more moves in the wing for the underachieving Flames?

The key are the upcoming free agents which the Flames never manage to re-sign. This could hurt them in the future.
However, I think they'll just sneak into the playoffs, especially is Nashville, LA, Colorado, Phoenix or Detroit goes on a cold streak.

IMO the only really important one is Rene Bourque. With the possible exception of Jokinen, Calgary can afford to lose the other guys (and get some cap relief and picks back)

Flames just traded Olli Jokinen to the NY Rangers for Kotalik and Higgins.
WTF is going on here? This team is one huge cluster****, looks like they're in big time panic mode.

You win 6-1 against a bad team though show signs of strength.
Either way, Jokinen has been struggling, though as someone said in a previous thread, i believe Phaneuf will excell an be the best defenceman he can be.
The should not have rushed the Phaneuf trade imo.

The deal hasn't gone through yet, but if it does, I think Calgary wins big time.

It is going to take the Flames 5 years to shake the Leaf Disease.

Josh, dude! Like I said before, Ian White and his moustache are 2 of my favorite Toronto Maple Leafs, nevermind this years numbers, there is no way in the blue hell that White is better than Phaneuf. I even expect Aulie to be better than White when the time comes.
And yes, Sjostrom is a fringe NHL'er, just like Mayers as of late.

He said what is a better "defender" and didn't white have more points this year than Phaneuf. I think that Phaneuf has potential of course (he's shown it), but as a defensive player, I'd say he isn't better than WHite (especially not this year). As an offensive defensemen sure.

Your trade wished I thought. I feel so bad for Galgary as soon as one Canadian team gets better another one starts to sink.

Oh man... so my bf now always jokes that the Flames are the old leafs... because of all the leafs players they have....
But I was looking at Toskala's stats on the leafs and WOW!
3 games played for the Flames and ---
Shots Against: 34+8+29 (71)
Goals Against: 2+0+2 (4)
Saves: 32+8+27 (67)
SV%: 0.943
Thats pretty good! Good for him!
Other players who were Leafs players:
Stajan: 15 games played (3 goals, 6 assists - 9 points, +0)
White: 15 games played (0 goals, 6 assists - 6 points, +9)
Mayers: 15 games played (1 goal, 2 assists - 3 points, +2)
Hagman: 15 games played (1 goal, 3 assists - 4 points, +0)

Listening to Molson That's Hockey, on TSN and they were discussing Glencross' recent contract sig.. and the fact that he was honoured with a NMC...making him the 11th player on the Flames' roster with a NMC. That is absurd. You would think GMs around the league would have learned by now. IMO, not alot of players deserve that clause.
