The Official New York Islanders Thread
Ok, yep it's back, the Islanders thread
They actually looked fairly good against the Pens, took them to a shootout and all.
A couple of points from game 1...
1. Good for Tavares, hopefully people won't be pressuring him too soon...
2. Why did Mr Wang have to embarrass himself and the team by getting the glove taps before the game?
3. Mark Streit = best free agent signing the Islanders have made in a LOOONG time.
4. What the HELL is up with Brendan Witt's hair???!!! lol

There will probably be a lot of pressure on Tavares afters scoring his first in his first game and getting two points in that game.
But damn, Tavares is on pace for 164 points.

I should never have said "Alexander Ovechkin - on pace for 164 goals."

What's your take on the Lighthouse Project?
Who needs to step up more - Blake Comeau or Josh Bailey?
Who's the best NYI rookie behind Tavares - Calvin de Haan, Kirill Petrov, Mikko Koskinen, Jesse Joensuu, Casey Cizikas, or Tony Romano?

The Lighthouse project is a MUST. I've had a look at the plans, and I mean, the amount of money that Mr Wang is willing to throw at this and the facilities he plans to build...it's mind boggling. I understand people living on Long Island aren't exactly your mad sports fan type but New York is a BIG city and there would be so much benefit in revenue streams for the club and also job creation to get this plan going.
He also said that he will start looking at other cities if this doesn't get approved very soon. That scares me. Mr Wang has never been as passionate as you would like about the Islanders. He runs his team like a business, and he expects returns.
I think that Comeau is in more of a position to step up. Bailey is just starting his 2nd season, his playmaking is coming along...it's a time thing. Blake Comeau has been in the fold for 5-6 years now. This is his time to shine - the team around him isn't stellar so he needs to make his claim.
The other played I'd throw in there is Jeff Tambellini. This guy is a BEAST when he plays for Bridgeport (he's better than point-per-game pace in the AHL) but he just cannot get it done playing for the big club. And his chances are starting to run out.

Isn't it the opinion that Wang is blowing smoke when it comes to relocation?

Well Mr Wang may be chucking a hissy fit...
But I don't see why he wouldn't move the team. He has consistently shown he has no personal interest in the team and that his part in this organisation is to make money. He's clearly not doing that right now.
This Lighthouse thing has been going on for over 10 years and I can understand the frustration.

D Brendan Witt took a shot to his ankle in practice Tuesday, the New York Newsday reports.
He is expected to be fine as he left the ice but returned to action quickly.

Dear Rich Peverley,
you have had a good reign. A very good reign. You currently lead the Thrashers in scoring, but by only one point. You started the season with ultra super powers that were going to overtake the National Hockey League. You would've had something no one else in the NHL could overcome... the Rich Peverley power.
However, Matt Moulson is a beast, a cannon, something you are not. Dear Rich Peverley, I do not write this as hate mail, but more so of a notice that you are no longer the ruler of the National Hockey League.
But Matt Moulson. He, he is.
Thank you and good day, fine sir,
Signed, Rayzor123

One of the best free-agent signings out there this year.
Although I wish someone would tell Biron to start playing like he means it!

Well, seeing how Roloson was pretty much the only thing that kept the Oilers in most games, there really is no surprise there.
