Biron made a nice save on Mike Cammalleri on Saturday -- not that it means much though. They still lost 3-0.

Roloson has been a really good free-agent signing, but, I'll make a case for Maxim Afinogenov and even Marc-Andre Bergeron.

Ok, some Islander related news for you guys.

- Rick DiPietro will be Roloson's backup for tonight's game vs Colorado.

- Sean Bergenheim practised Monday and should be on the upcoming road trip.

- John Tavares is currently cold (pointless in 5 games, 2 points in last 12) and he may be tried on the wing to see if he can spark up there.

I can't believe Phoenix actually forgot to put a man in the penalty box to start the third and were playing 5 on 4 for 9 minutes and 58 seconds against the Islanders. They finally stopped it when they took another penalty of their own. They couldn't ice it because Dwayne Roloson kept coming out to play the puck, thus, negating the icing call each and every time.

That must've been something to see.

Matt, what's the word on Martinek and Dipietro? Will they be starting the season with NYI?

I haven't heard anything injury wise on these two. My guess is that Martinek should definitely be OK to start the season, but I wouldn't be so sure with DP.

I wonder if DiPietro will ever be back to full fitness...

If they get good goaltending from Roloson then, I think the Islanders can not only make the Playoffs, but I think they might be one of the better teams in the East. Call me crazy...

I agree. Last year they had so many injuries on D it wasn't funny. Mark Streit at the end of the season was playing upwards of 30 minutes...which is not when he is most effective. With Martinek back (hopefully) and Doug Weight hanging around, this team could go places...

Roloson is still a #1 goalie who likes to face a lot of pucks, and that's a good thing because you can't rely on DiPietro for any long stretch of goaltending right now. Snow took a gamble on Biron and lost...but it didn't really hurt the organisation in any way so it was worth a try.

I think they could ice a good team right now, and they still have Park, Schremp, Moulson, Bergenheim, Meyer, and Reese to sign! Dark horse team to come out of the East is FOR SURE the Islanders.

Brendan Witt has been placed on waivers. I'd imagine they're going to buy him out. I wonder who they have in mind to take his place?

It's just been confirmed that Doug Weight has signed a 1 year deal and will be back for this season. Let's hope he's healthy this time...

That's a good job by Garth Snow. A veteran to help out the rookies coming in is great for the Islanders.
