The Official Philadelphia Flyers Thread
This is to rival SG's Pittsburgh thread.
Flyers are 2-0-0 so far to start the season.
James Van Riemsdyk leads the team with 3 points, all assists.
Jeff Carter and Mike Richards are tied for the team lead with 2 goals each.
Ray Emery has a 1.00 GAA and a .963 SV% with 1 shutout.
It's the Flyers year this year.
Defense = Stellar.
Offense = Still stellar.
Goaltending = Better than last year, and with the D, it's pretty damn awesome.

When the season is over, Ray Emery and the Flyers will have won the division, win the conference, win the cup and Emery will get a 3 year extension.

Look, I like the Flyers, and think they could finish as high as 5th in the East. It's not just you, but I think a lot of people are thinking too highly of them - but now you're predicting them to win the Cup!
The Flyers are really going to feel the losses of Luca Sbisa, Joffrey Lupul, and Mike Knuble. I don't think Pronger and Kaspar are worth it. Also, I honestly think Emery and Boucher are a downgrade on Nittymaki and Biron.
The offense isn't stellar. Carter and Richards are GREAT players, but after Gagne, Briere, and Hartnell, it's pretty thin. That would be fine normally, but how long will Gagne and/or Briere last? I hope neither of them go down - and if they don't, I agree, watch out - but I'm betting at least one of them will.
Of course Pronger, Timonen, Coburn, and Carle form a nice corps, but let's not overate them.
A lot rests in the hands of Ray Emery. We should all reserve our judgment on whether or not that's a good thing.
For the Flyers to really have success though, you're going to want to see these names on the scoresheet, because the aforementioned guys can't do it alone against teams like Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington, and New York - Claude Giroux, Darroll Powe, Lukas Kaspar, James Van Riemsdyk, and Kevin Marshall.

I don't think Emery + Boucher is better than Biron + Niittymaki...
Carter and Richards are AWESOME players - and they complement each other's style.
Gagne and/or Briere need to stay healthy. And if that happens...they will contend.
The big problem for Philly remains taking absolutely stupid, undisciplined penalties.

That is the only thing I could think of that will kill them, but then again, look at the amount of shorthanded goals they scored last year.
This team is very scary.

I can't cheer for a team that has Pronger on it.. I like just about every other player on the team though..
Christopher "Elbows" Pronger should be run out of the league...

11 goals in 4 periods and a half for the Flyers and still counting!
6-1 win over the Canes.
5-1 lead over the Lightning with 9:26 left in the second period!
