Just got my tickets for the Halifax-WHL Champion game next Saturday.:D Barring a comeback by Edmonton it will be Halifax vs. Portland and Seth Jones vs. MacKinnon and Drouin. Even though MacKinnon-Jones might be the big storyline, the more direct matchup will be the right D Jones head to head with the LW Drouin. I'll also try to take a close look at Sens prospect Troy Rutkowski.

Unfortunately, due to extreme brokeness, I'm only going to get to go to a couple games, but I'll be watching the rest on TV. Pretty damn excited regardless.

It now appears almost certain Roberto Luongo's time with the Vancouver Canucks has come to an end.

During a press conference Thursday, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said it was "unlikely" Luongo would return to the team next season.

Luongo, who has nine seasons left on the 12-year, $64 million contract, lost his starting job during last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs and requested a trade last summer. That never happened, despite Gillis' best efforts leading right up to the trade deadline in April.

In 20 regular-season games, Luongo was 9-6-3 with a 2.56 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. He started the first two games of the Canucks' first-round playoff series this year against the San Jose Sharks, allowing six goals on 61 shots. Schneider returned from an injury to start the final two games, but the Canucks lost in four games and were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round for the second straight season.

Make your picks for and talk about the awards.

Hart: I picked John Tavares winning the Hart pre-season as my bold prediction of the year so I've gotta stay with him now. But they did give Perry a Hart for having a great half of a season, so maybe Ovechkin can win one for a great half of a half a season?

Three good candidates in St. Louis, Stamkos and Bobrovsky were effectively eliminated by missing the playoffs, I so think Tavares might really have a chance.

Vezina: Gotta be Bobrovsky. Say what you will about Columbus' style, to have numbers like that on a non-playoff team is pretty remarkable.

Norris: Ryan Suter. Overshadowed in recent years by Shea Weber, Suter showed undoubtedly that he is in the same class as Weber this year, leading the league in ice time and helping get Minnesota into the playoffs. I had Suter, Subban and Weber as the three finalists, and I think Suter and Subban could both even garner some Hart consideration.

Calder: Brandon Saad. I had it between Saad and Brodin, and Brodin didn't even get a nomination. Yakupov was too inconsistent, didn't get enough ice time and was much too liable defensively. Huberdeau was a bit more consistent and played a lot more on a worse team but his defensive game was really exposed at times. For Saad to play over 16 minutes a game on a team as good as the Blackhawks is really impressive.

Jack Adams: Paul MacLean. By far the easiest of the awards to pick this year.

Selke: Jonathan Toews. This was the hardest one for me this year. I could hardly get it down to three finalists, let alone one winner. I considered a lot of different players, including guys who will be future candidates, like Frans Nielsen, Logan Couture and Matt Duchene, guys who are on the borderline of nominations every year, but get jipped for being wingers, like Hossa and Callahan, to the recent finalists, Datsyuk, Bergeron and Backes and Toews. I would have loved to pick one of Callahan or Hossa, but we know they'll get screwed again this year, so it came down to the four previous finalists, and ultimately down to Datsyuk and Toews.

Rookie Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the first three playoff goals of his NHL career in the Senators' 6-1 win over the Canadiens. The 20-year-old Pageau is the fifth player in the NHL's expansion era to record a playoff hat trick before his 21st birthday. The other players to do that since 1968 were Wayne Gretzky (who had two playoff hat tricks at age 20 in 1981), Peter Zezel (age 20 in 1986), Patrick Kane (age 20 in 2009) and Sean Couturier (age 19 in 2012).
