It appears that the Boston Bruins may have to do without centre Trent Whitfield for the season.

A report from Comcast Sportsnet New England says that the 33-year old blew out an achilles tendon this week while working out, and is likely lost for the year.

Whitfield spent the majority of last season with the AHL Providence Bruins, where he had 17 goals and 26 assists in 43 games. He played 16 regular season and four playoff games in Boston, and had one assist.
