Yep. Sjblahblah didn't even mention that he's happy to go to Toronto until his final sentence. But there isn't many players that would be happy going from Calgary to Toronto, imo. I've heard Kessel is not a good guy in the locker room and really drafs down a team.

Plus he signed a long deal with Calgary, then they traded him, so now he's stuck in Toronto for 4 more years.

OK, so I really don't understand what the hell the Toronto maple LEafs did today. It's just 100% stupid, IMO. If you're going to go on a trade spree, why not get a draft pick or something rather than defenseman and goaltenders that aren't really going to help. Let me rephrase that, maybe they will help, but now where the hell is your offense going to come from? Are the Leafs really going to stint the development of young guys such as Viktor Stalberg, Christian Hanson, etc... because of this bullshit now?

In the Calgary trade, they added 11 goals, but traded away 47 goals. In the Anaheim deal, they added a goaltender that *may* be on the decline, and gave up Jason Blake, who is overpaid, but is perfectly capable of 20-30 goals. The Leafs have been blowing leads left and right lately, so, was this move an attempt to stop that? Sure. But what leads are they going to blow now if they can't score. Their offense is going to rely almost completely on guys like Kessel and Ponikarovski, and I have to believe Poni will be traded at the trade deadline.

It's just a bunch of mind boggling events that happened today for the Leafs that are leaving me scratching my head and wondering just WTF Brian Burke is thinking. Was it fun? Hell yeah, but really stupid trades IMO, that could've been done in the off-season. At least they got a good prospect in Keith Aulie.

I agree. If you don't watch any Western Conference games, you probably think that Toronto wins, because they get Dion Phaneuf who delivers hard hits and scores from his slapshot at the blueline. But if you do watch the Western Conference, you'll see that those hard hits he delivers usually puts him out of position, and he sucks defensively, big time.

You should see Canucks fans on HF Boards. They hate the Flames with a passion, and they seem them a lot, and they say that Calgary won this trade.

I don't know what Nick Kypreos' problem is, but the Flames are the obvious winners here. To think they also saved a bit of space on this deal...! Now the only bad contracts they have are Bouwmeester, Jokinen, and Langkow. I wonder what they will offer Jokinen and Bourque this summer...?

Including the Anaheim deal, I think Toronto breaks dead even on the cap, yet everyone is talking as if they've saved space...
That was going to be my next question. On how much room or extra space they mad for adding new players. And from the sounds of it --- they did nothing.

I won't lie, I do really like Phaneuf! But he is one player.

My bf is, however, thrilled about this! (I think he's more so happy Leafs made a big move), because then he added I don't know if I can cheer for Flames or Leafs now. lol.

In other Leafs related news, Mike Komisarek may be out for the rest of the season.

I've gotta agree with all of you. With the Leafs, they already have Kaberle --- an offensive defensemen. And now they have two with phaneuf, and even less of an offense, and without really adding cap space for a new big player... what was the point?? And didn't they trade away ANOTHER pick?? Shouldn't they have gotten a few picks??

Honestly, I feel like this trade was more to make the Leafs Fans happy, then to better the team. Leafs fans have never liked Toskala (except when he saves leafs butts) and never liked blake. SO lets trade mediocre goaltending for medicre goaltending. People hated blake (even though he has always been a guy who can score, and one of the top scorers on the team) so trade him away in a trade!

I don't think this will really better the team.... I think if it were to give the team great room to add a big named centre-men to play with Kessel, maybe it was good... but from the sounds of it, that isn't the case.

What do I really know though.... Leafs fans seem happy.

They also seemed happy when:

They brought in JFJ
They brought in Burke
They traded for Toskala
They Signed for Blake
They Signed Komi
They traded for Kessel
They traded Antropov

You can't really call it 'Happy' If i had a team that didn't win in over 40+ years i would darn be happy if a fly was added to the roster to distract other players.

man the boston bruins are going to be happy at this years draft because at the rate toronto is going there going to have a no.2-3 pick plus at the rate boston is going there going to havea high pick also unless they become buyers at the deadline for a last puch to the playoffs. Think murray goes after penner/cagliano at the deadline? both were in the original trade with heatley

I just think its funny... everyone whos a leafs fan thinks this trade is great. Everyone else in the world, is like --- meh... probably could have done better! Lets just watch Phaneuf do nothing, and Toskala/Blake/Hagman/White kill it! That seems to be the way of the leafs as of lately.

IMO, every trade is a gamble. Most of the best players adapt to any environment rather quickly, for others, it takes longuer..and well, some don't.

But at the end of the day, the Leafs were not achieving anything with this group of players. Some were doing better than others but as a group, it didn't mean much. A change was needed, Burke did his things now..so that he would get the players HE wanted...and he still has time to dangle some stuff before trade deadline...

Only time will tell which team won in both trades.

Apparently our friend, Dany Heatley, is having a great season...

But so are the Sens! :P Without heatley!

And yeah I agree with you Jasmine. Personally I am not happy with Phaneuf being a Leaf, because I like him, and I like him in Calgary! Hahha, its all personal. I think Leafs needed a shake up, and this was a shake up. I still think if this is the "big" shake up the leafs were getting, and don't add some talented offence, the Leafs still won't do tonnes. But of course thats my opinion. I still feel like Burke felt pressure to do something big, and well, we shall see what happens.

I wish it wasn't Phaneuf though!! And I still hope Toskala really plays well. That would make me happy (and its all about me apparently haha).
