With Theodore & Varlamov out, Caps recall Holtby from AHL
WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals have recalled Braden Holtby from Hershey of the AHL and he will be the back-up for Wednesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Washington Post reports Michal Neuvirth will get the start.
The move was made because two of the Capitals top goaltenders are hurt.
Jose Theodore left after the second period of Tuesday night's win over the New York Islanders with a lower body injury and is day to day. Semyon Varlamov has been sidelined since early December with knee and groin injuries.
The injuries leave Neuvirth, who began the season in the minors, as the current starter for the top team in the Eastern Conference.
To make room for Holtby, the Capitals assigned defenceman Karl Alzner to Hershey.
