Well I guess the Canes made the right choice in making Staal captain halfway through the season!

If they did earlier, I bet they'd be in the battle for a playoff position now. It's not impossible now, but lets be serious here.

Right now, the 8th place team in the Eastern Conference as 55 points, so lets say that pace keeps up, the 8th place team will only need 85 points to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference this year. The Carolina Hurricanes has 43 points in 53 games, and have 29 games left. They'll need 42 points, so their record in their remaining games must be something around 20-7-2 to have a chance at making the playoffs. It's possible, but not likely. If they did this move earlier, and the team responded like this, they probably would be in the fight for a playoff spot right now.

But they'd also need the 7-8 teams infront of them to lose. Not too likely.

They'd just need 85 points to be in the hunt, because that's what the 8th place team in the Eastern Conference is currently on pace for in terms of points.

They find themselves in a similar situation to the Sens last year...although I don't think we were as far behind as the Canes are.

hopefully they can finish the season well like we did

and Staal playing so well has done so much for my fantasy team

I think the 'Canes will finish 11th or 12th and the 6th, 7th and 8th spots will belong to Boston, Philly and Tampa Bay.
