3-Way Deal or No Deal?
Posted 08-03-2009 at 05:30 AM by AK27ReLoaded
So its now come to this: San Jose having to either make a trade with someone to dump cash. Or for a third team to join the frey and help us. I took all this into consideration and came up with IMO non-biased realistic trades, bearing in mind what teams that I included need and don't need. I stayed on top of the Cap and none of these deals puts teams over cap. I also kept in mind what teams will be getting compared to what they are giving up. We all know Murray wants a proven scorer, a 1-4 Defenseman and a prospect. San Jose wants to retool their offense & change their image. there are teams that could help. So here they are and why.
Boston
To Ottawa: Kessel, Michalek Ehrhoff
To San Jose: Heatley, Sturm
To Boston: Chris Kelly, Nick Petrecki, 1st from SJ, 4th from Ott
Changed, too much $$ to Ottawa
To Ottawa: Kessel, Vlasic, Couture or McGinn
To San Jose: Heatley, Sturm
To Boston: Chris Kelly, Nick Petrecki, 1st from SJ, 4th from Ott
We get the proven scorer in Kessel, who IMO is a future 50 goal scorer himself. He fills the void for 2nd line center. He also might keep Spezza at his peak so Spezza doesn't lose his job as the Number guy in the middle. Vlasic is just going to get better and will be a force on the back end and potential future quarter back for the PP. Couture or McGinn would be nice additions and both are Ontario Boys!
San Jose gets Heatley the "big change" and re-unites with Marco Sturm who had a decent career in SJ and the potential to score 30 goals if he can remain healthy
Simple Cap dump for the Bruins they may definitely not get the biggest package when it comes to immediate income. Kelly would replace the loss of Axelsson, no room for a starting D so a prospect with potential works and some drafts picks for later.
Montreal 1
To Ottawa: Joe Pavelski, Josh Gorges, Couture or McGinn, 1st or 2nd from SJ
To San Jose: Heatley, Mathieu Carle or Yannick Weber, 2nd from Montreal
To Montreal: Marleau, Brian Lee
We lose Brian Lee but gain Josh Gorges, IMO Gorges will be better than Lee. We get the scoring and help at 2nd line center from Pavelski and then help for the future in McGinn or Couture. We give up Brian Lee who IMO is a little overrated. San Jose gains a Second Rounder for help later and to save cash and one of 2 good prospects in Carle or Weber, 2 guys who have proven they can be a force offensively on the back end in the AHL. The Habs get a little more size at Center along with some offense from Marleau who IMO is still a force, (just not here for 6.3 Mill.) and they lose Gorges but get Brian Lee who is good but not as good as people made him out to be.
Montreal 2
To Ottawa: Michalek, Plekanec, Yannicke Weber, 1st (SJ)
To San Jose: Heatley, Kelly, Carle
To Montreal: Marleau, Vlasic
My revised deal, thanks to Rayzor pointing out that the other would have been a steal for the Habs, which he was definitely right on.
We fill the void at center with Plekanec, a good move also because he has shown that him and Kovalev compliment eachother nicely, throw a Foligno on that line or even Michalek and thats some good Secondary Scoring! Yannick Weber came to Hamilton last year and lit it up for a rookie defeseman 16 Goals 28 Assists. Might not be ready this season but he's not far off with numbers like that. Maybe SJ wouldn't want to give up a 1st Rounder so a second rounder might be better. They get Heatley (Big Change) Chris Kelly to compensate for losing Grier and a good young defensman also with potential in Mathieu Carle. Maybe we get Carle and they get Weber but I'd prefer Weber and we need what Weber can bring more than SJ, they have Blake and Boyle. Montreal get the big....GER center in Marleau and a defenseman with lots of potentail, who is also born and raised in Montreal.
Los Angeles
To Ottawa: Pavelski, Justin Williams, Thomas Hickey
To San Jose: Heatley, Wayne Simmonds
To L.A: Marleau, Kelly, Lee
I won't include Dustin Brown cause I doubt they trade him, at one point I didn't but I just don't see it happening. We of course get Pavelski for the scoring and a Number 2. Speaking of scoring I included Justin Williams, I think he is expendable in the Kings system and it wouldn't hurt the Kings too much. The last 2 season have been horrible for the once 30 goal man for the Canes, Is his luck that bad that he will suffer another serious injury? I don't think so, you just never know when it comes to a player's health, but I'd take a gamble on him. Every team involved is taking a gamble on a player with: the Sharks and Heatley and the Kings and Marleau. Williams is a definite asset on the PP and is defensively responsible. He will be 28 when the season begins which is still young. He is a former first round pick from Philly. Very close to a point a game player. Some good scoring help there with Williams and Pavelski. We also get a highly touted offensive Defenseman in Thomas Hickey who may or may not be ready this year. His totals in Junior are impressive! Maybe like a Mike Green, cause he is not very big. SJ get the big change in Heatley and a great prospect in Simmonds who gives 110% every shift, he doesn't make a whole lot so they definitely save some cash here. Los Angeles does alot here, Marleau has a no trade, BUT if we were to get traded to LA he aint going far, The Kings have Kopitar but let's face it if they get a sniff of the playoffs they are going to need a veteran center. They have Michal Handzus but he hasn't been in the playoffs since 2005-06 and I'm sure LA would love to get his salary off the books. He has 25 points in 60 Playoff games, Stoll comes next with 10 points in 24 post season games. The Kings could defintiely use Marleau's help, and can fit him in to next year. This (other than Anaheim) would probably make Marleau the happiest as he loves California. They get some experienced defense in Chris Kelly and a defenseman to substitute the loss of Hickey in Brian Lee! This REALLY helps the teams and goes along with the direction those teams are headed in.
Minnesota
To Ottawa: P-M Bouchard, Cal Clutterbuck, Vlasic or Ehrhoff
To San Jose: Heatley
To Minnesota: Marleau, Brian Lee
Little bit of a dump of cash for the Sharks as they just get Heatley but again its the "Big Change" for them. Minnesota adds Marleau who 1. They can afford, and 2. They need. Why? well sure they have Mikko Koivu who IMO is a little overrated. But that said he can definitely set them up but he won't score a bucket load of goals, surely they could use Marleau and the 38 he put up last year. We get P-M Bouchard, so Koivu replaces Bouchard and Marleau replaces Koivu. They also only have 5 D under contract so that is where Brain Lee comes in, unless they want to take Jason Smith,, they do need another defenseman though. Like I said we get Bouchard who is a fine play maker, and would compliment our second line forwards extremely well. We get grinder Cal Clutterbuck who will make sure Chris Neil isn't the only guy to step in in case games get chippy and rough, he can also score. And last we get 1 of Vlasic or Ehrhoff from SJ.
N.Y Islanders
To Ottawa: Streit, Michalek, Couture or McGinn
To San Jose: Heatley, Lee, Bailey
To Islanders: Marleau, Vlasic
The Islanders have said they are keeping Streit BUT if I'm Snow I consider this deal. With Marleau coming in it doesn't immediately put all the pressure on Tavares and Weight. They are a little short at center and have had lots of porblems scoring goals the past ?? years. I guess since Jason Blake fled to Hogtown. Marleau addresses these 2 problems right away. They lose Streit but still get a darn good defensman to compensate for his loss in Vlasic. Maybe SJ flips them a pick as well. The Sharks get the BC (Big Change) in Heatley, get Brian Lee and Josh Bailey. Bailey will replace one of McGinn or Couture and Lee replaces the loss of Vlasic. SJ saves some cash as well. Maybe instead of Michalek we get Pavelski. Sharks deem Pavelski expendable with the addition of Bailey!
Colorado
To Ottawa: Pavelski, Hejduk, Ehrhoff, 2nd (Col)
To San Jose: Heatley, Brian Lee,
To Colorado: Marleau, Chris Kelly
I really don't think I can decide on either Vlasic or Ehrhoff, I guess from what I heard Vlasic is the better player. But both I say help our club. I have Ehrhoff here. We get the 2nd line center Pavelski and Milan Hejduk who has scored 20+ goals 9 out of 10 NHL seasons, scored 30+ 5 times, 40+ once and like Heatley a former 50 goal scorer. At 33 he isn't "old" but definitely not young, but brings offense, experience and a Stanley Cup Ring. San Jose get their BC (Heatley) and get Lee for Losing (in this case) Ehrhoff. The Avs land Patrick Marleau, and with only 3 centers under contract they fill a void adding 2 Centers. One to score goals and another who prevents them and chips in the odd time. Marleau Takes some of the Load off of Stastny's back and will definitely be needed in case Duchene isn't ready.
I'm going to throw in Dallas to the Mix as they might very well have a need, and they can afford some contracts. If SJ can ship Marleau elsewhere this could work.
Dallas
To Ottawa: Pavelski, Ott, Niskanen
To San Jose: Heatley, 2nd (DAL)
To Dallas: Vlasic, Cheechoo
We don't dump any salary other than Heatley's but we only take a little more than half of what Heatley makes. Get Sec Scoring from Pavelski, toughness and more Sec scoring from Ott and a young defenseman who was solid in his second NHL season. Potential IMO to score 10+ goals. Sharks get their BC in Heatley and a draft pick which doesn't add anymore cash to their cap with the acquisition of Heatley, losing Vlasic, Cheechoo and Pavelski frees up almost 8 Mill, so this could happen without Marleau getting traded and he's at 6 Mill and change so they add Heatley's 7.5 and shed 8. They could keep Marleau and still acquire Heatley!
Boston
To Ottawa: Kessel, Michalek Ehrhoff
To San Jose: Heatley, Sturm
To Boston: Chris Kelly, Nick Petrecki, 1st from SJ, 4th from Ott

and for that matter in San Jose
