Wondering what warranted that 10-game suspension for Jeremy Yablonski?
I spoke with the AHL's director of hockey operations, Bill Scott, this evening. And here are the particulars behind Yablonski's "physical abuse of officials" game misconduct, a category 2 offense that carries with it -- at a minimum -- an automatic 10-game suspension. Yablonski received the penalty Saturday night, during that second-period melee with Syracuse.
"In this case, our linesman (Jameel) Chaudry was holding onto him, trying to keep him away from fighting," Scott said. "And while Chaudry was holding onto him, it was reported that Yablonski got ahold of Chaudry's jersey, held it tight to him, and there was a report of a -- I don't know if you want to call it a punch -- but maybe a quick jab to the chin of Chaudry."
The incident was not captured on video, Scott said. But it was detailed in a report by the game's on-ice officials, as well as an NHL officiating supervisor, who was in attendance and witnessed the sequence as well.

The fallout will cost the B-Sens a vocal leader and a physical presence until Jan. 15, when Yablonski is eligible to return to the Binghamton lineup for a home game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
"I guess my reaction was, well, 10 games is 10 games," he said. "It was out of my hands, and it was up to the league to make the ruling. And I've just got to go with it. Now I guess I'm just going to keep working hard off the ice, and on the ice in practices, and help the team out off the ice as much as I can for us to win games."
Asked if, in his opinion, he did something to a linesman to warrant that suspension, Yablonski said: "Everything was happening so fast. I was just trying to help my teammates out. ... Whether I did something, I mean, that was over the line? I guess the league thought I did. And I guess I'll just have to deal with the 10-game suspension."
