Default Swedish

I was thinking, with all our Swedish drafts, is it more then just the Alfie effect?

Even when drafted, there is such a slim chance that a player makes the NHL. Im wondering if Murray is grabbing more of them because they have a higher chance of making it from the farms to the big stage.

Anyone have a figure on Swedish players drafted to Swedish players that break the NHL vs other countries?

It's simple. In Sweden, they focus SO much on skill and skating and everything to do with pure skill until he reaches the age of 18.

With that being in affect, most GM's think he will get destroyed in the NHL due to his weak structure and horrific aspects of the other parts of his game, he is usually still very weak and not the greatest of back-checkers and usually floats some games.

After a Swedish prospect has reached the age of 18, they than focus mainly on strengthening their body, defensive awareness, positioning, work ethic, etc...

That's why after a good 3-4 years after being drafted, the player comes in and shocks the NHL.

Also, Swedish players have such an amazing mentality they always strive to be the best and it is a huge help to their development.

My 2 cents...

Swedes are so Canadian-like it's incredible.

There is something about their drive to win the Cup that is unlike many other European country.
