I guess the Hart trophy loosely translates to those who score the most.. cause apparently the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard trophy aren't enough.
By the way, why doesn't there exist an assist trophy?

Sedin should win out of the options. If he didn't step up through injuries and shaky goaltending the Canucks would be no where.
But Bryzgalov and Ryan Miller are more valuable to their teams, which is what the Hart trophy is.
It really should have been Bryzgalov/Miller/Sedin. Even Anderson. He WAS the Avs season.

Hahaha, I tried telling you guys. Read my post about it in the Vezina Finalists thread. I'm glad they did the right thing... Although Bryzgalov should have at least received a nomination, instead of Ovechkin. As great a year as Ovie had, he wasn't even the most valuable player on his own team. That would be Nicklas Backstrom. Anyways, as I said from the start, its not really a contest, Hank Sedin.

I totally agree.
I actually think Malkin and Backstrom are just as good, if not more valuable this year for the Pens and Caps respectively.
I gotta go with Sedin on this one!

I said Crosby in that thread I made before, I'll stick to that, since no goalie made it.
Both the Canucks and Penguins relied on Sedin and Crosby a lot, but I think Crosby, even though I don't really like him, would be my choice. His supporting cast is good but he was really the only consistent force for Pens this season, imo.

I only think Sedin because of the crazy amounts of injury the Canucks had. Sedin carried the team through that. Without Sedin, Canucks would NOT have gotten where they are.
Without Crosby, you still have 2 great lines to make up for it.

I would call that the Wayne Gretzky memorial trophy.

Not to mention Miller. Take out Crosby and Ovechkin, replace with Bryzgalov and Miller, than I would vote, what a Gary Bettman type of list.

I don't know why they don't recognize that because it is a part of the game. And most goals end up in the net with the help of more than one player.

THIS...once again, THIS
Completely agree. I hate how they put @@@@in Crosby & Ovechkin just because they are top 2 players.
I hate Miller so I was glad he wasn't chosen in that list, but he definately should have. No Miller for Sabres, no playoffs IMO. He IS the Buffalo Sabres.

I don't think its that big of a deal in the long run. Henrik Sedin is the one who deserves to win it. When people look back at these awards 3, 4, 10, 30 years from now, nobody is gonna care who was nominated, the only thing that matters is who wins, and I'm confident they'll make the right call on this.
If not, then oh well, look at the Oscars: Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas? Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction? Kramer vs Kramer over Apocalypse Now? Sure they make the wrong call from time to time but most people get over it. They're still credible with the mainstream media and the great majority of film fans. Except for the odd radical who thinks his/her taste in movies is so much more finely tuned than the professional actors/directors/writers/etc who are the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
I know it seems like I've digressed, but look at it as an analogy. You might not agree with the decisions they make, but don't get upset and say things like "well, if the player I think should win isn't nominated, there is no point in voting". Instead, how about ask yourself "why did this player receive a nomination/win? Is there something I'm not seeing? Am I biased for some reason? Am I interpreting the criteria the incorrectly? etc." And for those who say things like "The NHL just did this so that the big name players will get recognition and attract publicity/attention to the game", keep in mind this is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writer's Association, not the NHL itself.

How much you wanna bet in 10 years time, every media out there will memorize how much times Crosby was nominated.
in 2020: "Well it seems Crosby is nominated for the Hart trophy yet again, that's been 5 times in the last 10 years marking all the way back to 2007-2008. What do you think?"
Than hodge will have a hodgemail on wheather Crosby deserved those nominations dating back to when he was a zygote etc...
Some shit like that

I wonder if there were similar discussions back in the day about Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux

Sorry champ, wrong again. Quick, without looking it up, how many times were Gretzky and Lemieux nominated? How about Bobby Orr? Oh, whats that? You don't know? Well neither do I. But I can tell you how many times they won.
