Vezina Trophy Nominee's Announced
Quote:
Martin Brodeur is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy for the ninth time.
The New Jersey Devils goaltender was uneviled as a nominee for the award Monday along with Ilya Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes and Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres.
The winner will be unveiled during the NHL awards show in Las Vegas on June 23.
The Vezina Trophy is awarded to the league's best goaltender and is voted on by the 30 general managers.
Brodeur is a four-time Vezina winner and led all goaltenders in games (77), victories (45) and shutouts (nine) this season.
Bryzgalov had a breakthrough year, posting career-best totals in victories (42), games (69), shutouts (eight), goals-against average (2.29) and save percentage (.920). He helped the Coyotes set franchise records for wins and points in a season.
Miller was second in the league with a 2.22 GAA and .929 save percentage while winning 41 games. The American was named MVP of the Olympic tournament and posted a 9-2-1 record after winning a silver medal in Vancouver.
The NHL will continue to announce the finalists for its awards over the next week.

Miller, Brodeur, Bryzgalov named nominees for Vezina Trophy
IMO Miller takes the Vezina, Bryz takes the Hart.

Miller gets my vote. But I think Brodeur will get some votes just because he is Martin Brodeur

So does the Vezina winner also get the Hart, or could Miller and Bryzgalov split the awards?

I think they'll split the awards and give one to each.

IN the last 20 years, only 3 times did the Hart & Vezina go to the same player
Hasek in '97 & '98 and Theodore in '02. IMO, this year, Miller & Bryzgalov both deserve recognition in some way so I hope they split the awards.

I think Miller was the better goalie... but Bryzgalov did even more for his team.

You guys all have to be joking. Miller and Bryzgalov for the Hart?
The biggest mistake the NHL awards ever made was giving Theodore the Hart in 02. Iginla deserved it so much more. Sure, Theodore got a pretty poor team into the playoffs but the only thing Iginla did wrong that year was kept an absolutely awful team from a chance at drafting Rick Nash. He scored 52 of his team's mere 201 goals. He won the Art Ross and Richard trophy with Craig Conroy and Dean McAmmond as his linemates......
Dominik Hasek set this precedent where if great goalie single-handedly wins games for a poor team, he should win the Vezina. But the problem is, Dominik Hasek was a special situation. Hasek was one of - maybe THE - greatest goalie in the history of hockey. He deserved those Hart Trophies he won. But unfortunately, in doing so, he set this precedent where now fans and media say, wait a minute, a goalie can win the Hart? And now everybody thinks that every time a goalie has a great year on not such a great team they deserve to be MVP.
Anyways, my vote for Vezina goes to Ryan Miller. If the award was for the goaltender most valuable to his team I was say Breezy, but its for best goalie, so I say Miller.

So this trophy just got a lot hotter, as neither Miller not Bryzgalov are Hart finalists. I still think it's Miller, but will he win it?

Hahaha, you guys need to start listening to me more often. As much as it seems like I just ramble on for pages about nothing sometimes, I actually do know what I'm talking about.
But yeah, Miller seems to be the best option.

Miller is an absolute wall. Bryzgalov is a stopping machine.
Both are sensational in my minds but Miller is just unbeatable at times. This whole season i don't remember 1 softy he let in that made his team think...Oh damn we needed that save.
