Because a pillow won't protect your knees and elbows from being smashed on the ground. The issue is players having no respect for one another, and unfortunately it starts at the minor hockey level. You want to solve this issue? Ban an NHL player for LIFE because of a head shot.

OR,
get them where it hurts, in the wallet. If you injure a player, you don't get paid until said injured player returns.

I agree Josh but I played for 35 years fell many times this worked fine. The ones in the picture are five times better than the ones I had as a junior

What the NHL's general managers will do on Wednesday, it appears, is propose a new rule that will limit the ability of players to strike opponents in the head with shoulder hits

Head shots do not need to be accompanied by a shot with heavy duty padding. You can hit a player with your shoulder right in his chest and the guy still going to get a concussion.

True enough it has more to do with the brain, liquid it floats and it being smashed around but the softer the padding the less chance of serious injury and concussions.

And here we go, looks like reason has prevailed. According to Darren Dreger:

The following language was agreed to unanimously by the group (of GMs):

"A lateral, back pressure or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted AND/OR the principal point of contact is not permitted.

A violation of the above will result in a minor or major penalty and shall be reviewed for possible supplemental discipline."
