Default Does anyone Understand how big the "Miracle on Ice" was?

Their was a talk in my school about what was the biggest momment in sports history. It should definately be "Miracle on Ice"... I totally agree with Bill Lankhoff. This game was more than just a "miracle".

"Miracle on Ice" is known as the biggest upset, and also the biggest momment in sports history. It was that great.

But does anyone actually know how big the accomplishment was?

Everyone knows who Henderson is in the '72 Summit Series
Everyone knows who Gretzky was in the Cup Finals against the dominating Islanders
Everyone knows who Kovalchuk was in the IIHF WC Finals against Team Canada when he scored the OT winner
Everyone knows who Lemieux was in the Canada Cup, everyone knows who Iginla and Sakic were in the 2002 Salt Lake City Gold Medal Game.
Everyone knows who Crosby is in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Gold Medal Game.
But does anyone know who was the hero in Team USA? Does anyone even know who was the captain? The defensemen? How about the goalie?

This game showed that ANYTHING is possible. Even a bunch of teenage boys can win against the high talented Soviet team. This team crushed the NHL all-star 6-0 the previous year. And an "American teenage boys" won against them.
This wasn't just a game, this game was something special, and so important to the American heart".

They lived in one of the most phenominal games, but a lot of them were forgotten. The only players from that team who made any impact to the NHL were Neal Broten, Ken Morrow, Mike Ramsey, and Bob Suter. Eruzione chose not to play in the NHL, while Jim Craig never made any impact in the NHL.

As Lankhoff said "They lived in the momment. They accomplished the Extraordinary. Than they returned to the Ordinary" was exactly how it should be summarized. This was the hockey game that deserves more than just an applause.

They are the legends

There was 1 teenager on team USA, Mike Ramsey. The Soviet Union also had 1 teenager, Vladimir Krutov. The Soviet team had much older players on average. It was a great feat but still it was 1 game. In the Summit series Canada was down 3-1 going to USSR. There is so much history that you are unaware of pertaining to the USSR and the world . At the time the USSR was the primary enemy of the West not so much Canada. It was so much more than just an Olympic game, it was a victory over a socialist regime. I didn't live through that period of time but I am aware of the symbolism of the event. I'm sure some of the older posters here could elaborate more than me.

I think Jesse Owens winning 4 gold medals at the Berlin Olympics in front of Hitler was a greater moment for the USA than the miracle on ice.

Technically that's 14.

(1+1) 2 is the same thing as (1+1) * 2 which equals 4, not 2.

So the correct way would be (1+1) + 10 = 12

or even 2(1+1) + 8 = 12

/Math Lesson

I simply broke it down (easy to read) (1 + 1) 2 + 10 = 12 (1 + 1) =2 +10 = 12

But technically you would have been correct. Kool site two grammar teachers and now a math teacher.

I liked the irony of you putting crap on Gerber all year and then for some unknown reason you picked up Gerber on waivers at the deadline
