Gainey should take advantage of Sutter's rampage today.

Scottie Upshall has been injured which, like Souray, plays a huge role in his market watch.
Not a lot of teams were after him but the couple that were had extreme interest, Ottawa being one of them.

I love how some people are saying how Burke is such an idiot for making these trades and others are saying the same about Sutter. Everyone needs to take a moment to actually look into the trades from both team's perspectives and weigh the positives and negatives on both sides. In the Toronto-Calgary trade, each team helped themselves in certain areas that they need help in. They both made sacrifices and they both took risks. We won't know who won this trade for 2 or 3 years.

Well, I say we do know who won the trade, and so do most people - the Calgary Flames. Burke could have got a much better return on those players if he'd split them up, and there's no way Sutter could have gotten more for Phaneuf.

Current line-ups(When fully healthy):
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev
Shannon-Regin-Cheechoo
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Volchenkov
Campoli-Carkner
Leclaire
Elliot
Current cap hit: 56.099
Cap Space Left: 1.287
Deal for the playoff run:
Brian Lee and Chris Kelly to Minnesota for Andrew Brunette.
Playoff Run Roster(Forwards Only)
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Brunette-Fisher-Kovalev
Foligno-Regin-Shannon
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil
Offseason:
*Sign Anton Volchenkov for 3.75 mil
*Sign Nick Foligno for 2.3 mil
*Sign Peter Regin for 1.7 mil
*Sign Jesse Winchester for 0.750 K
Sign Ryan Shannon for 1.6 mil(2 years)
Buyout Cheechoo
Trade Alexei Kovalev to Edmonton Oilers for Sheldon Souray
Trade Kuba to St.Louis for 2nd rounder/Polak
Sign Peter Forsberg for 1 year 4 mil
Roster for 2011:
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Brunette-Forsberg-Regin
Foligno-Fisher-Shannon
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil
Souray-Karlsson
Phillips-Volchenkov
Cowen-Carkner
Leclaire
Elliot
This could be an extreme long-shot, but i like my chances. Everything on this team is needed and found.
TOTAL CAP:56.35
Gone:
Kuba
Cheechoo
Kovalev
Kelly
Lee
Added:
Souray
Forsberg
Brunette
Cowen(Within organization)
NOTE: If Leclaire does poorly and Elliot steals his job than we can trade him giving us even MORE cushion under the cap. Also Lehner will probably be in the AHL so we can bring up Brodeur/Holt/Lehner to backup and start in AHL so the goaltending stays constant and balanced.
That seems like the perfect team in everyway.

I like that, but could you tell me why would we need Forsberg? The old man will get a knee injury the first game back if he returns to the NHL again.

Glad you asked that.
The NHL has now been as cautious as ever, guys like Gaborik and Havlat are excelling in the new NHL because of it's emergence as speed and skill> Physical edge.
Both those guys can be arguably JUST as injury-prone as Forsberg and are both on track to finish playing over 76 games.
Forsberg is, at the moment, tearing up the SEL with 17 points in 14 games.
Forsberg had chemistry with Brunette and i believe of the 7 assists of his 13 assists lead to Brunette goals.
Forsberg is still one of the best players, imagining him healthy is just a scare.
IF Forsberg goes down, our lineup will still be outstanding.
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Fisher-Brunette
Shannon-Regin-Winchester
Ruutu-Smith-Neil
Only difference? We will have Souray on the back-end HUGE upgrade over Kuba.
If Forsberg's career doesn't last long than remember we still have Leclaire as trade bait if we need another top 6.
Brunette-Forsberg-Alfredsson........*DROOLS*

Well thought out, BUT, I don't think we should trade Kelly. As I said in another thread, he is what John Madden was to the Devils, what Lehtinen was to the Stars, what Pahlsson was to the Ducks, and to some degree what Draper and Maltby are/were to the Wings. You need a guy like this to win the Stanley Cup, every team that wins the Stanley Cup has one of these guys, those guys I named all have won the cup and have been an integral part of their teams runs. Pittsburgh had Staal/Talbot last season. Chris Kelly has earned his pay check so far this season. If left off the top lines, you won't hear me complaining about Chris Kelly.
Souray doesn't want to play in the East again, he even publically said it awhile back. I think Thomas Kaberle is a better fit here than Souray, Kaberle is cheaper and has one of the best first passes in the NHL, not to mention his shot, he would thrive with our supporting cast. I just don't know if BM can outbid other teams. If we were to get him and pair him with Karlsson, we could have one of the most dangerous top 2 Dmen in the NHL especially if Karlsson continues his strong play and gets even better!
I think Brunette would look great alongside Kovalev and Fisher, and if not Chuck Kobasew! As for next season,
Well let's win the Cup first!

I also think we should keep Kelly. This could be a career year for him, and I wouldn't trade him unless Regin truly supplanted him as the third line centre.

This team goes up together, but they also all go down together... sometimes, that's not good.

I would have liked to see Kelly go and Keep Vermette, so I was always on his case but he does shine by times.
