This.
You know, Leclaire fits the profile of youth and could be part of a rebuilding Panthers team. It's certainly not going to be Clemmensen.

Leclaire has taken a membership with the infirmary. It scares me to think what could happen next...

EUREKA!
To Ottawa: Thomas Vokoun, Keith Ballard
To Florida: Pascal Leclaire, Filip Kuba, Chris Kelly
To Ottawa: Marin Erat, Patric Hornqvist
To Nashville: Alexei Kovalev, Brian Lee, SJ 2nd Round Pick
Erat - Spezza - Alfredsson
Michalek - Fisher - Hornqvist
Foligno - Cullen - Neil
Ruutu - Regin - Shannon
Ballard - Karlsson
Phillips - Volchenkov
Campoli - Carkner
Vokoun
Elliott
The moves work strategically and cap-wise for all involved teams. As a bonus, the proposed moves actually save us $300, 000 and put us at $1.5 million under -- enough to raise Volchenkov all the way up to $4.7 million if need be.

Not enough. Poile says "thanks for the offer. We like Kovalev but if we're giving up Erat and Hornqvist we need a young star player back to replace them as well. Why do I want Brian Lee? Jonathan Blum, Roman Josi, Cody Franson, Ryan Ellis, C.O. Roussel say no thanks. Make it Nick Foligno instead and we'll have something in the works"

Yeah, I doubt the Predators will be giving away their offensive pieces for Kovalev, a 36 year old forward and another defenseman. Especially Patric Hornqvist, I find it very hard to believe the Preds would trade this guy. He's been on fire this season scoring 23 goals in 60 games so far in his first season, while averaging 15:31 ice time a game.

If we are going to be trading Kovalev for Erat i would consider it.
If we can get Hornqvist and only give up Foligno? I'd do that deal in seconds.
Michalek-Spezza-Erat
Hornqvist-Cullen-Alfredsson
Or Fisher instead of Cullen.
Any day everyday over:
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev

I'd do Lee AND Foligno for that return, and I still think Nashville may pass.

Mhm, hence the reason I said include Foligno and they'd have something to work around. I do think Nashville would be interested in Kovalev, as maybe the chance to play alongside a Russian hockey legend would help convince Radulov to come back to Nashville next year.
But realistically though, its silly to expect a blockbuster like that between two teams that are in playoff positions and have both been playing very well lately.
I do have a few idea for how to improve our defense though.
To Florida: Filip Kuba, Chris Campoli
To Ottawa: Dennis Seidenberg, Bryan Allen
Ottawa standpoint: Greatly improves our defensive depth for the remainder of the season:
Phillps-Volchenkov
Carkner-Seidenberg
Allen-Karlsson
We'd lose Seidenberg in the off-season but keep Bryan Allen for 2 more years, I think he could be a good match with Karlsson until Cowen or Wiercioch is ready.
Florida standpoint: Trade away a pending UFA, helps get a good return off of an otherwise wasted asset. They get a powerplay puck distributor in Kuba who is signed for 2 more years in exchange for Allen, and a good young defenseman in Campoli for Seidenberg. Everybodys happy.

I just watched the Finland-Belarus game. Holy crap, can we please try to trade for Kimmo Timonen? They need wingers, right? And they'd need a defenseman to replace him on the powerplay? How about Kovalev and Kuba for Timmonen... and, say, Aaron Asham?

I wish! Pretty sure they're quite fond of him down there, though.
