I'm willing to overpay to do this, here's a proposal that fits our cap and those of the teams involved - and keep in mind, I see this as primarily a Playoff lineup:
First we trade Cheechoo, Lee, and San Jose's 2nd to Minnesota for Brunette and Kobasew. Then we trade Kuba, Shannon, and our 2nd to Florida for Bryan McCabe, who is a left-shot scoring defenseman who can mentor Karlsson and convert his passes.
Brunette - Spezza - Alfredsson
Michalek - Fisher - Kovalev
Foligno - Kelly - Kobasew
Ruutu - Regin - Neil
McCabe - Karlsson
Phillips - Volchenkov
Picard - Carkner
|
IDK about McCabe, he makes a lot! I think Kobasew is a 20+ goal scorer in this league. If we can get him here, gitter done BM. I think Kelly should stay on Line 4, Regin wouldn't be as effective playing with Ruuts and Nailer, and plus Kelly Ruutu and Neil is one of the best and effective 4th lines in the NHL.

Don't need Kuba gone if his replacement is McCabe. Not worth it.

I want Afinogenov, I think his 800K is a STEAL for what he's doing this year with the lowly Thrashers, and I wish BM would have signed him in the off season.
Colby Armstrong and Max Afinogenov
For
Cheechoo and 3rd/4th
or
Afinogenov
For
Take your pick Atl
Daugavins, Hennessy, 3 or 4th rounder, Shannon, Zubov or Campoli

It's going to take A LOT more than Cheechoo and a 3rd/4th to get Armstrong and Afinogenov out of Atlanta.
1) Afinogenov is having a great year, while making 800K. That's a steal.
2) Numerous teams had interest in Colby Armstrong last year, yet, despite the Thrashers not even in playoff position at the deadline last year, they didn't deal him. He's a valuable player for the style of game he plays.

Got to be careful whats given up, both Afinogenov and Armstrong are UFA's at season end, I'd make the draft pick a 2nd rounder if contracts were agreed upon

I really don't think acquiring him would be a bad move.

I'm not saying McCabe is bad...but he's not a huge upgrade on Kuba and he costs more.

Upgrade it's not even a side step look at the plus minus ratings for McCabe over the past few years.
But he can score the odd goal

I don't really think theres a snowballs chance in hell of BM getting in on the Kovalchuk sweepstakes, but their is a "mystery" team.... and I seen Ottawa labled as a dark horse So why not....
To Ottawa: Kovalchuk
To Atlanta: Michalek, Kuba, Hennessy, 2nd Rounder
meh,,,

Actually to my surprise Murray has had discussions with Don Waddell, Apparently talks going nowhere unless Cheechoo is accepted as part of a package,, I say give them Michalek

I am with you all the way on this Spent some great times in Aylmer few I would rather forget in the old days when I use to play at the Chaud. I am also very envious because beer is so cheap across the river.

If only Atl would have agreed to take Cheech, would have got him some top minutes in an environment that is a little less criticizing. I guess that snow ball didn't melt away in hell, I couldn't believe when I heard Murray held serious discussions with Waddell for Kovy, and we were in fact one of those dark horse teams, leads me to specualte is he going to go after Kariya? the next best forward we could snag at the deadline? I guess one shouldn't be surprised! It definitely shows IMO that BM feels we are a contender and is COMMITTED to doing everything he can to help us get to the Finals again with a different outcome!
St. Louis will have to take back salary, 2 obvious guys are Kuba and Cheechoo, I have to admit I would be actually pissed if BM traded Kelly. So Cheech and Kubs,,,, interested St. Louis? That said I don't think we should trade Kuba until Karlsson comes back! if of course Kuba is moved.
San Jose, you owe us one,,, Kuba for Clowe Straight up!
Acquire Comrie from Edm,, Third times a charm should take a mid pick
I got a Block of a Buster lol from Carolina!
To Ottawa: Eric Cole, Ruutu or Whitney preferrably Ruuts Jr, (apparently Whitney might not want to come play in Canada... asshole >_<)
To Carolina: Lee, Cheechoo 3rd/2nd
Bored at work I went through teams and picked guys I think if acquired would really help us out... Since we were in on Kovy anythings possible!!!
Max Afinogenov
Z. Michalek
Mike Comrie
Steve Ott
Todd Bertuzzi
Petr Sykora
Alex Ponikarovsky
Raffi Torres
Ryan Callahan
Owen Nolan
Matt Cullen
Ray Whitney
Vaclav Prospal
Paul Kariya
Thomas Plekanec
Dennis Wideman
Alex Tanguay
Chuck Kobasew
Aki Berg
Andrew Brunette
Thomas Kaberle
Justin Williams
Mike Ribeiro
Adrian Aucoin
Marek Svatos
Joe Corvo
Patrick Sharp
Kris Versteeg
Dustin Byfuglien
T. Ruutu
Eric Cole
Joffrey Lupul
Teemu Selanne
Marco Sturm
We need an established forward IMO for Kovalev in the playoffs, Selanne has a cup, and ties to BM. Eric Cole would be AMAZING if he could stay healthy! Don't know if the Hawks deal away any of the guys I mention until after the season ends. I have heard Ribeiro's name in some rumors, be a nice center for Kovalev, put Fish on the Left Wing. Boston's free fall could make Sturm available and I think Wideman is likely gone. Ponikarovsky would be a force with Kovalev! I said Comrie would never be a Senator again after 07 and was sorrily mistaken, I say Third time's a CHARM! Comrie Fisher Kovalev! T. Ruutu (if available) is a KEEPER, I hope Rutherford would consider trading him, as IMO ol" Jim owes BM a favour for the Corvo/Eaves trade. Anyway I think everyone on that list would be great fits!
Oh and btw
I'm just kidding of course lmao,,,
If you're observant you will know why I said that

Right now i really can't comment on anything because everyone is so close to the playoff race.
Ottawa was projected 2 weeks ago to be 10th-6th now they are making a case for 3rd.
My friend in Sportsnet and TheScore also don't have strong rumours because of the fact that many teams are still unsure if they are buyers or sellers.
Take Edmonton for example. They were NINTH!!!!! When they made a huge deal for Roloson and went to the finals.
I think that is a huge reason why Minnesota hasn't given us Brunette yet, cause they themselves have a shot at a playoff berth.

Agreed. We are in enough trouble with the cap as it is. Rolston would only make it that much worse.
