Keep Kelly for sure!!!!
And why...why...WHY do so many people like Souray so much!? He is defensively awful and only good for some points... great shot on the PP for sure, but I know someone else that is developing that very nicely...oh..what's his name...oh yeah... Karlsson! (not to mention Regin!)

Ok, i see that most of you are satisfied with Kelly's game and hell, i am too.
I want to ask though, Murray wants to do a trade so WHO will you want to give up?
Kelly? Winchester? Shannon?
If other name em.
Plus please don't say Picard...Cause Lee is part of the package now add a forward worth value.

Hahaha, just thought I'd throw that out there. Not EVERYONE.
Anyway, here are a couple trade ideas:
Atlanta-Philadelphia
To Atlanta: Simon Gagne, Matt Carle/Braydon Coburn, prospect/draft pick (they don't have first rounder this year though)
To Philadelphia: Ilya Kovalchuk
I don't really need to explain this one. Philly has deep defense, deep center, needs star winger. They overpay for a rental but they also clear up cap space to try to extend him. Bob McKenzie said Waddel can't trade Kovalchuk for just picks/prospects because he would lose the fans. He needs good, exciting young players. If he could pull off this trade it would likely be the best possible return in that regard.
Another idea:
Columbus-Toronto
To Columbus: Tomas Kaberle, Alexei Ponikarovski
To Toronto: RJ Umberger, Fredrik Modin
Columbus standpoint: Gets the true powerplay quarterback they have so long seeked. Both Ponikarovski and Modin are UFA in the summer so they are only included to make the cap exchange equal and help address team needs for this season, for Ponikarovski, its to replace the offense punch lost from Umberger. Modin isn't a big loss as he is not the player he used to be and is somewhat overpaid at this point, also with all the extensions they have upcoming, they may not be able to afford to re-sign him. Yes, it gives them a couple extra defensemen, but now they can afford to trade Tyutin or Hejda elsewhere for picks/prospects/young forwards.
Toronto standpoint: Toronto is currently paying 8 defensemen close to 30 million, so here they drop a defenseman, and add forward help to replace what they lost in the last 2 trades. Burke gets his man in Umberger, the perfect Burke player, tough, gritty, clutch, All-American. Burke actually drafted him back in 01 with Vancouver. Modin simply replaces Ponikarovski for the rest of this season. Not as good offensively, but more of a Burke type of player.
I realize the problem in this deal is Kaberle's NTC, but whatever, it'll probably never happen but it seems like a great deal for both teams.

I don't think Kovalchuk goes to Philly unless Jeff Carter is going back to Atlanta. Coburn would go back to the team that drafted him!
In the other trade Modin would return back to the team that drafted him (the Leafs) I think Burke is going to chase Umberger HARD, I'm actually going to predict at the very latest R.J will be a Leaf opening night in October 2010 for the Leafs. I definitely think that Columbus would have to spicen that proposal and throw in a good draft pick. Or Raffi Torres, who seems to have become available. So I think Burkie would be more inclined to do this
Kabbie and Poni
For
Torres, Umberger and Modin

There is a little bit of talent and help out there for us, but if possible, when it comes to forwards I hope Murray inquires to Chicago if Patrick Sharp is available. If there is any way possible for us to land Patrick Sharp Murray should do it. I think he is the BEST possible acquisition we could get for offensive help, but if he is a Blackhawk in June I bet Burke nabs him. If a deal could be swung landing us Sharpie it would probably be one of the best case scenario acquistions for us, besides Kovalchuk, but we aren't getting him, not a snowballs chance in hell IMO, unless Atl will take Lee, 2nd rounder, Kuba and Cheechoo
Imagine lol
Kovalchuk Spezza Alfredsson............ Now thats something to drool over!
Anyhoo I'd try and see if one of Sharp, Versteeg, Byfuglien or Ladd are up for grabs from the Hawks
From Minnie: Brunette, Kobasew or Nolan
From Edm: Cogliano, Maybe O'Sullivan? LMFARO - Mike Comrie..... wouldn't that be something else. Back for a third stint in 4 seasons I don't really like what they have to offer on defense, Visnovsky makes too much and is commited long term, Souray shot isn't worth 5.4, and Tom Gilbert is overrated.
If Burkie will take offers from us, Murray should chase Kaberle and try to include Stalberg. Unlikely, but who would have though Phaneuf was going to be a Leaf?
If Montreal free falls bringing in Plekanec to play with Kovie and Fish would be a no-brainer.
How about Afinogenov from Atl?? maybe a good fit with Kovie??? throw Fish between the 2! probably get him for a 3rd or 4th rounder.... OR maybe Campoli to Atl for Afinogenov and pick
The Canes are going to be sellers and I would be interested in a few from Carolina. Tuommo Ruutu, Ray Whitney, Matt Cullen, Chad Larose and Joe Corvo, I don't know why I bother as I don't think he'll ever be a Senator again,,, I still like him though!
From Columbus: Raffi Torres or R.J Umberger!
I read that Ottawa might be interested in Mike Modano,,, No freakin way please, way past his prime. Brian Lee for Steve Ott, straight up!
Anyway, thats a brief summary of what I'd be looking at if I was BM
Tell me what you think!

Patrick Sharp would be awesome but the player i think Murray will still go after is Brunette.
Brunette racks over 60 points and reached 80 once and will cost the least out of any out there for us to get.
I really like the Ott deal cause it gives us strength and that scoring edge.
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Brunette-Fisher-Kovalev
Foligno-Regin-Shannon/Ott
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil
Also i am hearing Sens interested in O'Donnell, i think that is SOLID if we get him.
I would love of ALL people to get Versteeg.
Versteeg is SO clutch and raises his game to a NEWWWWW level come playoff time.
Versteeg-Fisher-Kovalev.
He is too expensive though...I think.

Versteeg makes just over 3 mill, they would have to take back some salary, I don't think they are in a position to do so. I'd love him here too, but not as much as I would Patrick Sharp.
Sharp or Umberger will be a Leaf for next season IMO

No...I doubt that.
Sharp said he wants to be in a cup contending team...I heard that habs are following this guy (habs are cup contenders ?)...
And for Umberger...I don't think he is in Burke's radar. Burke only wants superstars apparently.

You may be on to something with Umberger.
Remember that Burke likes big aggressive powerforwards that can score goals and raise their games in playoff situations and Umberger is no expection.
After all, Burke was HIGHLY interested in Clowe but was too expensive, Umberger can be on his radar and easier to acquire.
The question is....Who would Toronto give up for Umberger.

OK, here is my new proposal, modified to slot Kovalev on the RW:
After looking into it, I gotta' give props to AK27 who pointed out before me that a very sensible deal would be acquiring Andrew Brunette and Chuck Kobasew from Minnesota. I'm willing to overpay to do this, here's a proposal that fits our cap and those of the teams involved - and keep in mind, I see this as primarily a Playoff lineup:
First we trade Cheechoo, Lee, and San Jose's 2nd to Minnesota for Brunette and Kobasew. Then we trade Kuba, Shannon, and our 2nd to Florida for Bryan McCabe, who is a left-shot scoring defenseman who can mentor Karlsson and convert his passes.
Brunette - Spezza - Alfredsson
Michalek - Fisher - Kovalev
Foligno - Kelly - Kobasew
Ruutu - Regin - Neil
McCabe - Karlsson
Phillips - Volchenkov
Picard - Carkner

A couple things:
-AK-27, I think if you watched as many Oilers games as I do, you would be singing a much different tune about Tom Gilbert
-On your list of players from Carolina, I would add Tim Gleason, he would actually be 2nd on my list behind Tuomo Ruutu and just ahead of Corvo and Jokinen
-Josh, I never even considered the idea of Bryan McCabe, but now that you mention it, I actually kinda like the idea, if we could dump Kuba and/or Cheechoo's salary in the process
-Whoever it was who modified my Kaberle idea to include Torres, sounds good to me.
-Whoever said Burke only wants superstars, grow up, he inherited a cluster of 2nd and 3rd line players and backup goalies, he brought in 3 superstars to build his team around

Co-sign about Burke
I can definitely say I don't watch a lot of Oiler games. I just don't like the fact that his numbers are already on the decline for a young defensemen, but I guess the team and the performance has a lot to do with it. There is something about American born defensemen, a lot of them are very inconsistent IMO. I personally think Bryan McCabe could help us out,,, he makes a ton though...
IB: I was the one who added Torres to the Leafs in your Kaberle trade
I think Burke is doing a pretty damn good job building "the new Leafs" despite what he had when he became GM, I certainly didn't think they would manage to get rid of Jason Blake
Leaf fans: Welcome back to the playoffs in 2010-11.
