I am more concerned about the running from behind that still goes on to this day - Slava Kozlov got away with a beauty of a hit in the back the other night that concerns me much much more than the hit on Toews.

See, I watched the Kozlov hit live and I saw it as being more of a circumstantial thing. He seemed to be looking away from Gomez and to not realize he would be facing the glass. You see players skate into the boards like that every game. Also, I noticed that as soon as Kozlov did realize what had happened, he appeared to bend over to make sure Gomez was OK, only to end up with a face full of (maybe well deserved) Gomez's gloves.

How's that? Savard didn't get an invite to training camp, and Gonchar's a Russian. Sheldon Souray didn't get an invite. The only players that got invites who aren't currently available (other than Joe Sakic who retired) are Milan Lucic and Jonathan Toews. Even if either of them do make the team (which IMO is a longshot) they should both be healthy in time.

Getzlaf has a questionable injury...I think.
Plus I meant the future.

So you're saying the players should only be allowed to hit each other so hard?

???
Let me see, If I read over my post....I said open ice hit are DANGEROUS and not necessary. This hit was not necessary, just like the Phaneuf hit during training camp.
And thas is my personal opinion..you don't have to agree with me...

They are very necessary. If you were to ban open ice hits, players could just skate through the neutral zone without fear. Do you realize how radically different hockey would be if you couldn't hit a player in open ice? It would hardly even be the same game

True.
But crazy hit (or a headshot ) on open ice is not cool. Like the one Phaneuf did was 101% unnecessary.
Just a hit would be fine...

If a player gets hit in the head, it's because he put his head down. Explain to me how you're supposed to just 'hit' someone if they put their head down? When you put your head down it sticks out & it's the first thing that'll get hit unless the player hitting him is 3 feet tall

This most recent hit with Toews, was clean. He was not hit in the head, he fell to the ice after solid contact to the shoulder.

The Richards hit was clean, maybe not necessary, but clean. Looking at it again, at first, I thought it was an elbow, but it was just his shoulder. But that doesn't mean it was a necessary hit. But yes, the Richards hit was clean.

IT WAS JUST A SHOULDER???
You wouldn't say that when you got that kind of hit.

Whether you like it or not, it was clean, and it was his shoulder that hit him, which led him to not get a suspension.
In hockey, you're taught to never watch your pass. I play hockey and I learned that, which is why I'm never laying on the ice after getting hit like that.
Don't admire your pass and you can avoid those types of hits. However, I do think these types of hits have to get eliminated. But players have gotta stop admiring their passes, plain and simple.
